Austin, Texas, USA Circuit Guide
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is one of the surprises of 2015. After been out of the official F1 calendar for 13 years, it’s back for this season for the enjoyment of the Mexican Grand Prix.
usa f1 track
F1 returned to the USA at Austin, Texas in 2013 and has displayed potential as the home of F1 in the states. The first return GP pulled in a crowd of over 100,000 fans at the first purpose built F1 circuit in the US. The atmosphere suggests it is here to stay.
The 3.4 mile circuit as a unique collection of corners, with a layout that certainly seems to be one of Tilkes better designs, although it is the original brain child of Tavo Hellmund. The circuit is creative in its thinking, with elements of other world class circuits used to create the ideal track. It may not be that perfect, but it was worth trying.
challenging & high speed circuit
As mentioned above, the Austin F1 circuit is comprised of a selection of world famous corners that have helped carve F1 into the sporting the statue it is today. The Esses through turns 3, 4 & 5 are more than similar to the legendary Maggotts and Becketts at the British Silverstone circuit, whilst a triple apex is thrown in to challenge like turn 8 at the late Istanbul Park. Hockenheim can even claim some influence in the form of the arean section to complete the make up of the anti-clockwise layout.
As with all hairpins that lead onto straights, turn 11 will test your ability to get your entrance right in order to exit with speed to prevent losing places to those behind. The tight left hander at 12 will provide overtaking opportunities for those that are brave on the brakes, if a pass hasn't materialised before then from slip streaming.
Turn 1 is a genuine feature for the USA GP, with a unique uphill approach where the incline is surprising for the first time racer and certainly gets lost on tv coverage. Those elevation changes are a feature throughout the lap and make for a brilliant drive.
