As of March 17th we see the lights go out on yet another F1 season! Winter testing has never been so inconclusive and it looks like we are set for an extremely close season. All the teams have shown flashes of pace and the gaps between them have closed signifcantly it appears. Will Lewis Hamilton move Mercedes further up the grid and to regular podium finishes or will he have to settle for mid table finishes? And will Caterham and Marussia close the gap to the midfield teams and challange for points finishes?
For all those connected to Lets Race, the most exciting prospect on the grid this year is the arrival of Max Chilton. This year graduating from the Carlin GP2 team to the Marussia F1 team. During his 2012 season Max enjoyed 2 victories, his maiden win in Hungary and the second at the first ever Singapore GP2 race. He finished the season 4th overall. Joining him in F1 will be fellow graduates Esteban Gutierrez and Giedo van der Garde. The other rookie to join the grid is Jules Bianchi- Max's teammate for the season. Jules is the first driver, that isn't backed by Redbull, after Kubica to be promoted to F1 straight from the World Series by Renault 3.5 Championship and early signs are pointing to the Ferrari protege being very quick, which will lead to a good inter-team battle. Australia will show us which team is the team to beat and will give us our first glimpse of Max battling with the best at the pinnacle of motorsport. For those of you that love your motor racing you can come down and watch all of the action in centre on our 110" screen before you and 9 friends can recreate the magic by taking the action into the race room in our full motion simulators!
Once you have the adrenaline pumping the next announcement may be just what you need- alongside the F1 season start we also see the inaugural Lets Race Championship. We are very happy to announce that we will be running a five round championship in our professional simulators, with the first round commencing on the weekend of the 31st of March. The championship is open to anyone, with 30 seats available for each round, and will be run on a first come first serve basis so if you are interested get down to the centre and book yourself into a seat now!
With the recent new software upgrades at the centre, we are in for some fascinating races as the cars offer a much more immersive sim racing experience. During all championship races we will see the welcome addition of tyre and fuel depletion leading to a much more tactical style of racing. Do you go for out right speed and build a lead early on and risk being reigned in or do you keep it smooth and consistent?
Time will tell which style works best for each individual driver and who will take an early points lead but we can't wait to see all 30 seats available filled and racing hard to become the first EVER Lets Race champion!
